Documentary Wedding Videographer
MEMORIES IN MOTION
You’re not like other couples. This isn’t like other films.
Because from the moment we walk in the door from the moment you sit down for your first viewing, we remain immersed in your day and everything that made it unique. Nothing posed, nothing staged, just every moment of connection, love, laughter and insanity that made your wedding the best day of your lives.
What is a documentary wedding videographer?
A documentary wedding videographer captures a wedding day naturally and unobtrusively, focusing on real moments rather than staged scenes. Instead of directing or posing couples, we film events as they unfold – emotions, interactions, laughter, and the small, unexpected stories that reveal the real relationships between family and friends. Using a keen eye, creative composition and innovative story telling we look to create an artistic, cinematic story that reflects the true atmosphere and personality of the day. The result, we hope, is an honest, timeless film that feels authentic and deeply personal.
We capture the moments you didn't even know you'd want to remember

Why choose a documentary videographer for your wedding?
Because the best bits aren’t in the plan.

- No awkward posing or acting required — just be yourselves, we’ll do the rest.
- Your day, unscripted — captured as it truly unfolded, not staged or directed.
- All the in-between moments — the glances, the giggles, the chaos, the joy.
- The real party energy — dancefloor carnage, questionable moves, full vibes.
- Authentic sound and atmosphere — laughter, music, bad jokes and all.
- You might not even notice we’re filming — and that’s kind of the point.
- Films that feel like memories, not performances.
- Watch it back and see things you didn’t even know happened.
The documentary approach- how we film a wedding

So how does it work on the day?
As documentary wedding videographers we don’t pose or instigate the action, we simply anticipate it.
On your wedding day you’ll find us hiding in plain sight, quietly immersing ourselves in the atmosphere, watching the way guests interact and reading what might happen next. In doing so we hope to capture not just the big, scheduled beats, but the quiet, hidden stories that reveal so much about the people you’ve chosen to share this day with and just why you love them so much.
No shot-lists, no templates, just your day: unique, original and totally you.
We don’t arrive with a script or preconceived ideas, just open eyes, ready minds and cameras in hand. Our documentary approach means we’re constantly observing, anticipating, and capturing real moments as they naturally unfold. No staged scenes, no repeated formulas – just the genuine rhythm of your day, told with honesty, creativity, and care. Every couple is different, and that’s exactly how we believe their wedding films should feel.

Videography & Photography.
A seamless collaboration
At York Place, photography and film don’t just sit side by side—they move together in perfect harmony. Our unique collaboration between York Place Studios and York Place Films means your day is captured by a team who share not only a deep creative vision but also a natural, intuitive way of working. We don’t direct or interrupt; we observe, anticipate and respond in sync, allowing moments to unfold organically and be preserved with a cohesive, cinematic flow. The result is a seamless blend of stills and motion that reflect the real atmosphere, energy and soul of your celebration—without ever pulling you out of it.
You might be wondering ...
What kind of equipment do you use?
It’s vital to us that your wedding never feels—or looks—like a film set. This is your day, not ours, so from both an aesthetic standpoint and a desire to keep everyone relaxed around the cameras, we rely on the smallest, most discrete kit we can find.
That’s why we shoot with Fujifilm X‑series mirrorless cameras: they’re often more compact than the photographer’s gear and have the charm of old‑school film bodies. By keeping our cameras handheld and lightweight—no bulky rigs, no extra lighting—we blend seamlessly into your day, capturing genuine moments exactly as they unfold.
The only time we bring in a little more kit is for your ceremony and speeches. We’ll quietly position two extra cameras on subtle tripods (always out of the way) and, if you’re comfortable, ask you to wear a tiny tie‑clip microphone. This lets us deliver pristine audio without ever calling attention to our presence.
In short: minimal gear. Maximum atmosphere. All so you and your guests feel completely at ease—free to be yourselves, while we document your story.
Do you travel for weddings? And will it cost me extra?
We travel everywhere and will happily film your wedding anywhere in Britain at no extra travel cost for a single‑day shoot. Although our home base is in Yorkshire, roughly half of our weddings take place in London and the South of England.
Rest easy about logistics: we always allow twice the estimated travel time, so we arrive relaxed and ready. And if your venue is more than an hour and a half away, we’ll book accommodation nearby the night before—ensuring we’re fresh and focused for your day.
We also welcome destination weddings worldwide. From a Tuscan villa to a beachfront ceremony, we’ll follow your story wherever you choose to celebrate—just get in touch for a tailored travel quote.
Do you capture the full speeches and ceremony?
We capture every moment of your day—ceremony vows, heartfelt speeches, and all the little in‑between bits—and weave the most meaningful clips and audio into your highlight films. If you love a particular toast, we’ll often use snippets of speech as the soundtrack to your story.
By default, we don’t deliver full‑length ceremony or speech videos, as our focus is on crafting a cinematic, story‑led film rather than raw footage. However, if you’d like uninterrupted recordings of your ceremony and speeches, we’re happy to offer that as an add‑on. Just let us know, and we’ll include full‑length coverage alongside your edited film.
How do you work with other photographers?
We thrive on collaboration—whether we’re teaming up with our own York Place photographers or working alongside someone whose style couldn’t be more different. Our goal is always the same: to bring out the very best in both your film and your photography.
We never compete for the same shot. Instead, we fall into sync: if space is tight, we’ll find alternative angles or complementary moments. Because our approach is entirely unposed and documentary‑led, we won’t pull you away for extra poses or get in the way of your photographer’s portrait session. While they guide you through portraits, we’ll stay behind to film what your guests get up to in the meantime.
And if you’d like us to join in on portraits, we’ll let your photographer lead and then weave their direction into our film. That way you end up with a seamless blend of striking stills and authentic motion, all without anyone stepping on each other’s toes.
Do you have a drone?
Yes! But …
We rarely use drones in our wedding films because we believe the most meaningful moments happen up close and personal. While aerial shots can look impressive, they often feel detached from the intimacy and emotion we aim to capture. Our focus is on genuine human connection and storytelling — and that’s best achieved by being present in the moment, not hovering above it.
Like any tool though, it’s all about the individual situation in front of us, and if we feel that a drone shot would add to the narrative (and can be safely flown) then we’re always ready for take-off.
How do you choose the music?
Before becoming a filmmaker Matt was a professional sound and lighting designer for theatre and knows more than most the impact that the right piece of music can have on the narrative. That’s why every piece of music we choose is painstakingly selected to match the feel of the moment and match the emotional ebb and flow of the film from start to finish.
We are firmly committed to ensuring that all artists are paid for their work and have access to some incredible libraries of unbelievably talented artists of all genres of music from rock & roll to classical, all fully copyright compliant so that you can share your film wherever you like. Whilst we can’t guarantee to be able to use a particular song from the day, we’ll always use the sounds we hear at your wedding to guide all of our choices and find something that captures the atmosphere and builds in all the right places. And, in the rare case that we don’t get it quite right and you don’t like a particular track we’ll happily change it for you.
What will we receive?
We’re always happy to tailor our collections to suit your needs, but generally, you’ll receive two films: a short, shareable highlight film — perfect for showing friends, revisiting on your phone, or reliving the emotion in just a few minutes — and, depending on your chosen package, a longer feature film (our most popular length is around 15–20 minutes).
This longer cut allows us to go deeper into the story of your day, including more of the ceremony, speeches, and all those little in-between moments. Our couples often tell us it’s the perfect balance — long enough to bring the day rushing back in vivid detail, but short enough to watch again and again without skipping a thing.
How long will you be there?
We work to the needs of our couples and are always flexible, but generally we offer 3 options on coverage – 8hrs, 10hrs or unlimited coverage.
8hrs is often perfect if you’re planning a later wedding or don’t want the preparations filmed.
10hrs tends to fit most schedules, allowing us to capture some of your preparations and stay for an hour or so after the first dance so that we can really capture the party atmosphere.
Unlimited means you simply don’t have to worry – we’ll arrive whenever you like and we’ll only leave when the story is complete – either at the end of the night or when we all agree it’s time to call it a wrap.
If you’re not sure just yet you can always book a shorter package and request additional coverage closer to the day.
